Orizaba Expedition 2000
The CAPU - The large bus station at Puebla
Travel Time.
On the ground at Puebla, first it was a cab to the Hotel Colonial as the rendezvous point. There I picked up instructions to go to the Campamento IMSS La Lintzin at La Malinche. This is a government-operated resort but was more like a fancy campground. (please don't anyone tell Al Gore he'll claim to have invented the idea) To get there first I had to schlep my bags out to the curb to catch a cab to the CAPU, the gigantic bus station on the outskirts of Puebla. From there I had to take the Verde Bus to Apizaco from there it was a cab to the IMSS.
I was only five minutes behind my compatriots, Michael Railey, Steve Hall and Wayne Shanaghan They had arrived in country the previous day via Mexico City and overnighted in Puebla. We managed to set up camp in the dark. Schlepping the bags up to the campsite I'd scouted was no fun.
After we got settled in we went to the restaurant at the "resort". The food was palatable but no much more. As it happens the weekend was part of a Mexican National Holiday so the place was packed. The locals partied until about 4 in the morning. In between the singing and dimox (and anti-altitude sickness medicine with an annoying side effect) induced pissing I think I got about 5 hours of sleep.
